The U of U club has had an up tick in leadership involvement and some big plans for promoting swing dancing. Along with that comes a brand new website that we hope to use in promotion of events:

http://utahswingkids.com/

Not much content yet, but we hope some good publicity will grow the club and recruit more fresh young dancers in SLC. We decided that a separate forum from swingUtah would be redundant, but a calendar and facebook group seem like useful resources.

Thoughts? Comments? Jokes?

"Utah Swing Kids", eh?

All hands, brace for semantic collision...

I don't think you have anything to worry about Ransom. There are swing kids in almost every University across the nation. I typed in Swing Kids in a Google search and there was the UW Swing Kids (University of Washington), Central Michigan Swing Kids, etc. There's also several websites that have nearly the same extension:

www.swingkids.com
www.swingkids.org

Other scenes with "Swing Kids" from www.thelindyhop.com
McGill Swing Kids
USA California - CA Pomona Cal Poly Swing Kids
USA California - CA Visalia The Visalia Swing Kids' Mailin
USA Idaho - ID Pocatello ISU Swing Kids Dance Club
USA Idaho - ID Rexburg BYUI Swing Kids
USA Michigan - MI Mt. Pleasant CMU Swing Kids
USA Washington Bellingham WWU Swing Kids

The U's old website also mentioned swing kids.

Utah Swing Kids certainly wasn't my first pick. Come up with some better names, and maybe we can head off this identity crisis.

In the time I've been going I've called it:
Utah Swing Club
or
UofU Swing club

The club wants to cater to everyone in the Salt Lake valley as well as Park City and Davis county(I don't think Weber Swing Cats are active anymore). A name that captures U of U affiliation without excluding non-Utes (like myself) would be great. Our major target audience is folks around college ages at the U, Westminster, SLCC and other local schools. I consider the U club to potentially be a feeder for the Skillet and SwingUtah as opposed to competition.

To be honest, the other college clubs have names that fit their character and school history pretty well. USU Big Band swing represents their strong feelings for traditional swing. BYU Swing Kids Club references some subversive anti-establishment (BYUSSR) student activities political history. I don't know enough about the U to come up with a great name, but we're also trying to forge a fresh identity and strong branding here.

The original name said it better. When the swing club was founded it was called the Savoy Swingers. Any more input Grant?
