1. If I'm asking someone to DJ I should have an idea of what they will sound like and trust that they will be mindful of the floor and see what people are jumping to and see what makes them all take a seat. I dont think you should ask someone to dj and say but you can only play this kind of music. You might say something like there are a lot of blues dancers that come or we strictly have lindy hoppers but I think you should trust the dj to make the right calls on the songs being played.

It's just like a dance gig that someone is hired for though... they want you to do your style, but they want you to do this too. You have to make adjustments for the people paying you. A job will never tell you you can't do what you were hired to do... IE play music. Which give you all the right to play the music you like, but if you're playing for an event and people aren't feeling your stuff you have an obligation as the person entertaining them at the moment to change your tune.

Thanks Karen, That's what I ment.

I find that when I try to dance and DJ I don't do as well with the music. I should take Ron's and Brenda Star's advice and listen to my music more. It's much better to read the crowd when I'm not dancing. When I dance I tend to play what I want to dance to.

yeah, i gotta be in the "DJ zone" for me to do well. that always means i need to be standing up when i DJ. i need to be able to feel the music i'm playing and how it's affecting people. i lose all that when i sit down. (weird huh)
